August 23, 1955 in the basement at 2317 Broadway, East Chicago, IN at 7:30
pm. Rev. James Walker presided as chairperson of the meeting with 6 people
present. Rev. Marvin Mays was elected Pastor. The first service was held
Sunday, August 28, 1955
In September of 1961, Rev. Dave Williams was elected as pastor and proved
worthy of his appointment. The membership continued to increase. Rev. Dave
Williams led his members into a new building in November of 1963 at 2417
Elm Street, where they worshipped for 8 or 9 years.
They began to have services at 3734 Deodar in 1971. In May of 1973, under
the leadership of Pastor Dave Williams Sr. and the guidance of the Holy Spirit,
he led his flock to their final destination. To the little brick building at 3939
Deodar St. In the summer of 1990, they were able to remodel the upstairs.
The Church Cornerstone was laid in August 1991. On March 17, 1993, God
called Pastor Williams home for his just reward. Although he will always will
be missed, his spirit and his legacy lives on.
A Young Minister by the name of Rev. Lee C. Gilliam, Sr. was chosen in June
1993, as the new Pastor of The New Second Baptist Church. As pastor Gilliam
began to grow spiritually, so did the membership of the church. God gave
Paster Gilliam, Sr .; a vision and he has been laboring in His Vineyard,
working toward that vision. Through his teaching, God has been blessing New
Second Baptist Church. In the short 15 years he has been Pastor, great thing
has been happening over at Miracle Place and Vision Blvd (3939 Deodar
Street). ''Holy Ghost'' headquarters. God has truly blessed us to be a blessing
to the community.
