Dr. Jeanette Gilliam, Co Pastor
"ONE LITTLE ROSE"

I would rather have one little
rose from the garden of a
friend then to have the
choicest flowers when my
stay on earth must end.

I would rather have one
pleasant word in kindness
said to me than flattery when
my heart is still and lies was
ceased to be.

I would rather have a loving
smile from friends I know
are true than tears shed
round my casket when this
world I've bid adieu.

Bring me all your flowers
today whether pink, or white,
or red I'd rather have one
blossom now than a Basket
full when I'm dead..
Minister Jeanette Gilliam is the second daughter of Mrs. Susie Williams
and the Late Rev. Dave Williams, Sr.  As a child the love for Christ and of
Christ shone brightly in Minister Jeanette’s eyes.  Walking and talking with
her father, Minister Jeanette Gilliam learned there is no greater love, then
the gift of herself  to Christ.  She confessed Christ at the age of 10 and was
baptized by the late Rev. William Polk at the New Testament M. B. Church.
In November of 1970, Jeanette was united in Holy matrimony to Lee
Charles Gilliam, of Gary, IN.  To this fruitful union they had 3 children, La
Trice, Lee Jr. and Robbin.  They are the doting grandparents of 11
grandchildren.
Minister Jeanette Gilliam accepted her calling to the ministry on August 10,
1996.  She preached her trial sermon on Sunday, Sept. 8, 1996.
Continuing on the path of her calling, she became an ordained Minister on
April 5, 1998, under the direction and guidance of her husband & Rev. L. C.
Gilliam, Sr.  Minister Jeanette Gilliam is the  Co Pastor at the New Second
Baptist Church.
Reflecting back Minister Gilliam knew that her path would not be easy, but
when the path became rocky, she would recall one of her father’s favorite
passages” God is with the Preacher in the midst of a storm.”
She has been a member of the New Second Baptist Church for over 37
years.  In her years at the New Second Baptist Church, she has toiled in
many different capacities:  Sunday School Teacher, Director of YWTN,
Church Clerk/Secretary, Choir Director, Choir President, Broadcast
Announcer/member, counselor for the NSBC “Write The Vision” Prison
Ministry Watch Care Program and Counselor & Case Manager of Neighbor’
s Stretching Beyond Crisis Battered Women Shelter.
Minister Gilliam would be the first to tell you, without God being first and
foremost in her life, she would not be here today.  Being a warrior in God’s
army, does not stop the devil from trying to come into her life.  She knows
that the devil comes to rob, steal and destroy, but when things get rough,
she opens her bible to Isaiah 66:24 “And it shall come to pass, that before
they call, I will answer; and while they are speaking, I will hear.”
As Minister Gilliam, continues to work in the vineyard, she has become a
teacher to some, an inspiration to others and an formable opponent to the
devil.  Minister Gilliam is still sending up timber, knowing  that her work for
the Lord is never ending, but the rewards are “Everlasting.”
